Hey All,
As you may have noticed there is kind of an “Escape From New York” vibe in getting around the Howlin Rain website lately. The site has been in a state of semi-disrepair since our server has reformatted. I am going to have to find some time to reconfigure the website a bit. In the mean time all pertinent info will be here in this window.
First off, drummer Raj Ojha has joined the ranks of the Rain
completing the membership of the band’s next phase as a four piece. The new Howlin Rain four piece officially launched at our first live gig in the Basque Country at the Azkena Rock Festival in Spain on May 15th. Thanks to all our Basque and Spanish friends and fans for making that first gig for the new line-up a party.
On June 27th Howlin Rain will be headlining a gig at the Uptown in Oakland, Ca. with Radio Moscow and Inner Beauty also on the bill. This will be our first bay area show in almost 11 months. Let’s make this fucker a party! Our first gig in Santa Cruz in almost a year to follow on July 9th.
We are also headed out for a short string of European gigs in July and a few dates with Akron Family in August. Howlin Rain Acoustic Duo (Ethan and Joel) will be unplugging the electric guitars and breaking out the psych-folk staircase as support to the legendary gunslinger Bert Jansch at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco on July 12th.
Complete Live Date Listing:
June 27th. The Uptown. Oakland , Ca. 9pm.
July 9th. The Crepe Place, Santa Cruz, Ca. 9pm.

Hello Friends! I have got my blog up and running and it will serve you with music, Bootlegs and live material from Howlin Rain and beyond as well as pictures, rants, and general good dope. To prove that this blog is not simply some cracker ass bullshit about my feelings or the music industry or the price of gas I have cut right to the chase and posted a devastating International psych comp that was compiled for me by the legendary promoter/agent/business man/ international psych scholar John Fitzgerald. One mind crushing heavy jam after the next. You are sure to enjoy! I will continue to post Howlin Rain songs and complete live shows for download on the blog in the near future.

Hello Friends!
Howlin Rain have come off the long year of touring in 2008 and are currently laying rather low, writing music, mixing cocktails and experimenting in the basement chemistry lab to form the holy ghost of our next album. Ideas, explosions, smoke and epiphanies abound! Thank you to the Black Crowes and their fans for the great road miles on the east coast together in October. Thanks to all you folks in Europe that we rolled with in December. To all the folks that came out to our gigs for the last year and a half of touring; bless you, sincerely, the road can get to be a painful and lonely place to exist after a while and it is made into a rewarding experience by your energy and support at the shows and the crossing of paths with good people. Happy New Year to you all. May 2009 be a new and different trip than any you’ve been on before.
For vinyl lovers: The Wild Life LP is now available! http://www.threelobed.com/tlr/tlr052.html The First album is still in the works. Currently at mastering but due out this winter or spring via Birdman Records as a 2 record set including bonus material. Please keep an eye out for other merchandise goodies coming down the chute.
Myself and Joel will be performing our acoustic Howlin Rain as part of tribute concert at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica on March 1st in celebration of the awesome songwriter and extraordinary musician Chris Darrow and the re-issue of some of his great out of print albums of the 70s. Also performing will be Akron Family, Ben Harper and others. See the SHOWS section for all details.
PEACE!

Just wanted to say Howlin Rain had a wonderful first gig as support to the Black Crowes in Humboldt County. And we couldn’t have asked for a warmer and more supportive reception from our family, friends and old hometown gang. We were really touched.
Bless you all!
In not so great news there has been an illness in the Crowes camp and Las Vegas and Santa Cruz have been canceled. Bummer. But tour will resume in Mesa, AZ.
See you then!

Hey All,
I have made a new mix tape for the “When You Awake” blog site. It is chalked full of country, soul, voodoo, gin music, some rare, some classics, complete with rambling notes by myself from the gin and tonic files. Follow the link to check it out and enjoy, I’m sure it will help bring in the summer with you.

Hey everyone,
today marks the day of release of Magnificent Fiend on LP, CD and digital download in the UK, Europe and beyond. We are heading out to tour in Ireland and the UK this week including the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Camber Sands.
Some folks have been writing and asking about the subscription/ tour only “Wild Life” e.p. We will have copies with us for sale in Ireland and the UK, this will most likely be the last tour that we will have them available, copies are almost sold out.
In other news our good friend and magnificent collage artist, Steve Quenell has just completed a new website to showcase and sell prints of his work. Please take a visit and grab one of these beautiful prints for your walls. Steve’s art has graced the album covers of Six Organs of Admittance, The Warlocks and others. please cut and paste this link here.
Once back from the UK Howlin Rain will be heading down to the U.S. South for a string of shows including Atlanta, Boone NC, Birmingham AL, Nashville, Chapel Hill NC, Knoxville, TN and ending at Bonneroo to perform on the night of friday the 13th.
On July 19th we will be playing a very special out door show at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur with Beachwood Sparks. This will be one of only 3 reunion shows scheduled for them and the only one in California. If you have still not made it out to one of these Big Sur shows, believe me you are missing a moment of clarity and pure beauty and pleasure in this ever stressful and rat race world. You will remember things about being a human in Big Sur that you think you had forgotten forever. These weekends are among the the most bonding, relaxing and inspiring time an audience can have together. You will enjoy.
We are also pleased to announce that we will be doing a string of support gigs for the Black Crowes in the Fall, it’s still a ways off but we are mightily looking forward to joining them!
Thats all for now. See you on the other side of the Atlantic!
be well and with love
Ethan and Howlin Rain
